Day 1 – Sunday        …    – Urumqi (China)

Arrive in Urumqi in the evening. Meet and greet by professional guide. Transfer to hotel. Dinner at local restaurant. Overnight at hotel in Urumqi.

Day 2 – Monday        Urumqi Turpan 180 km (China)

  Breakfast at hotel. Your silk route tour starts from drive to Turpan which lasts about 3 hours. On the way we can see the largest wind powered station in China (da ban cheng). After arrival and check-in, we begin our tour of Turpan.                               Kariz underground water system is the China’s third   most important ancient engineering feat. Jiaohe Ancient City is the oldest, largest, highest ancient city built of mud in the World.  Then you will visit Emin Minaret built in 1777.Overnight in Turpan (Breakfast, Lunch Dinner)


Day 3 – Tuesday             Turpan Urumqi – Kashgar – 1078 km (China)

 

After breakfast we drive to Gaochang Ancient City, 47 km east of Turpan. The city was built in the first century B.C; it was a key point on the ancient Silk Road.

 

Then we head to Astana Ancient tombs, the capital tombs and underground museum of Xinjiang where many important writings, paintings and mummies have been discovered.

 

Next we will have a traditional Uygher lunch in Tuyuk Valley and Flaming Mountain. We will visit the Tuyuk Village where we can see traditional Uyghur life. Villagers live in traditional homes made of mud.

You will then take an evening flight to Kashgar

 Day 4 – Wednesday  Kashgar – Karakol Lake – Kashgar 1078 km (China)

Today we take a drive on Karakurum highway, renowned as the highest paved border crossing in the World. We will see the following on our drive: Opal village is a 1 hour drive from Kashgar. It is a good location to take photos of village life and traditional activities like bread making and Uyghur food stalls.

 Half an hour drive from the village we will arrive in Oytagh Red Mountain. The mountain valley is surrounded by a beautiful backdrop of multi-coloured mountains topped by snowcapped peaks. kashgar_old_town_peopleCorner Lake (Bulung Kul) is a tranquil shallow lake where you can take very nice photographs of the lake with stunning reflections of the sand mountains. Karakul Lake is 3600 meters above sea level.      It is located between Mt. Muztagata  (7546 meters) and Mt. Gonger (7719 meters), which are said to be 2 of the 6 most beautiful mountains in the World . We will visit the local Kyrgyz Yurts and listen to their stories about traditional ways of nomadic mountain life.                                                 

Picnic lunch: We will then enjoy our picnic lunch of fruits and fresh bread that we purchased in Opal village in a beautiful picnic spot overlooking the Karakul Lake. you will drive back to Kashgar in the time for dinner.

Days 5 Thursday           Kashgar – Urumqi 1078 km (China)

 We will begin our tour of Kashgar City by visiting the Apak Hoja tomb also called fragrant concubine tomb (Xingfei in Chinese) . This is a very tranquil place and a beautiful example of Uyghur Islamic architecture.

Next we will head to the Infamous lively Sunday market renowned as the biggest market in Central Asia. It is said you can buy anything you want from the Sunday market except chicken milk and Cow eggs. 

After lunch we will wander through the narrow winding streets of the historic Old town brushing shoulders with the friendly Uyghur residents. Located at the spiritual heart of old town is Id Kah Mosque, the largest mosque in China.  We will go inside and have the chance to understand a bit more about the Islamic life of the Uyghur people. We will pass down Handicraft Street where we can view pots being hammered, wood craftsmen at work and traditional musical instrument workshops.

Note: For entering the Mosque visitors should dress respectfully, no shorts or short sleeved shirts and women should cover their heads with a scarf

Day 6 – Friday         Urumqi  (China)

Sightseeing of Urumqi: visit  Heavenly Lake. It lies on snow-capped Mount Bogda at almost 2000 meters above sea level. The sapphire-blue lake is set in deep slope of pine forests and meadows of wild flowers where Kazak nomads camp. The views from the cruise boat are breathtaking.

Drive back to Urumqi. Proceed to visit the Xinjiang Museum.

Day 7 – Saturday        Urumqi– Almaty (China/Kazakhstan)

Breakfast at hotel. Transfer to airport for flight to Almaty. Arrival to Almaty, meeting at the airport by our professional guide, transfer to the hotel. Check into the hotel.

Lunch at local restaurant. Afternoon is free to have rest, explore neighborhood and walk around. Dinner at local restaurant. Overnight at hotel in Almaty.

Day 8 – Sunday        Almaty (Kazakhstan)

    Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to Issyk Kul Lake – the pearl of Kyrgyzstan. En route visit Burana Tower. Lunch at Kyrgyz family in Tokman town. Keep on driving to Issyk Kul valley through Boom Canyon.

 Visit

Day 11 Wednesday           IssykKul – Chopon Ata–Grigorevka Gorge – Bishkek 260 km (Kyrgyzstan)

  Breakfast at hotel. Morning transfer to visit Petroglyphs, the rock carvings lying under the open sky, then drive to Grigorevka gorge full of lush green Alpine meadows and fur trees, easy hike in the gorge.

Day 15 –Sunday            Samarkand – Shakhrisabz –Bukhara – 380 km (Uzbekistan)

Breakfast at hotel. In the morning depart Samarkand and drive to Bukhara via Shakhrisabz. Arrival to Shakhrisabz: visit remains of Ak-Saray Palace, Kok-Gumbaz Mosque, Khazrati Imom Ensemble.

Lunch at local family. After sightseeing in Shakhrisabz, continue driving to Bukhara which was one of the most important cities on Silk Road. Arrival to Bukhara, check in to the hotel. In afternoon excursion to

Transfer to Mary via Turkmenabat&Merv(350km/4.5h). Sightseeing of Merv: visit  Gyz Gala & Oglan Gala, Complex of Askhabs, Gyaur Gala, Erk Gala, Sotla Gala, Sotlan Sanjar Mausoleum etc.

Sightseeing tour in Kunya Urgench: visit Portal of Caravan saray, Mamur Minaret, II Arslan Mausoleum, Sultan Tekesh Mausoleum, Academy of Horezm, Kutlug Timur Minaret, Turabek Hanum Mausoleum. After sightseeing, return to Dashoguz.


 Transfer to border check point Dashoguz. Border formalities on both sides. Continue driving to Khiva.  Arrival to Khiva, check in to the hotel. Dinner at local restaurant. Overnight at hotel in Khiva.
