Local cuisine of Kyrgyzstan is cheap and plentiful. Usually with meals round flat bread and tea are served. Please remember that in traditional meals it is common to use more fat which is not common for western people. Kyrgyz cuisine, like other Central Asian cuisines is based on the extensive use of meat, mostly lamb. It is worth to try “manty”, pilaf, kebab, meat and vegetables. Manty – chopped meat in the dough like a large dumpling, cooked in a special way. Manty is prepared and served almost everywhere in Kyrgyzstan. From soups to choose is Lagman, “shorpo” or “chuchvara”. Traditional cold snack “ashlyamf” made from noodles, starch and sour sauce with acute seasoning. Freshly baked round flat bread and “samsa” (pies of flaky pastry with meat or cheese ) are sold everywhere.
In Kyrgyzstan, many of the national drinks are unique with unusual taste. In the mountains, it is worth to try “ayran” (which is a something between yogurt and sour) and mare's “Koumiss” (mare's milk), they can be bought at the bazaar. At the market you can always buy fresh fruits and vegetables.
In Kyrgyzstan, you can use cold water for drinking. However, boiling is a good tradition of cold tap water for making tea (green or black), which is used during the meal. Hot tap water should NOT be used for drinking.
In Kyrgyzstan, for good service it is customary to leave a tip 5-10% of the total bill.
